PROMPT #1: Philosophy (the pursuit of wisdom by intellectual means and moral self discipline) and its practical applications to classrooms has been ongoing for more than 2,000 years. A person's philosophy of education is usually a set of beliefs that relate to who, what, how, and why people in society should be educated. Think about your philosophy of education and write your ideas below this prompt.

(It can be as long or as short as you desire) Remember to SAVE when you are done, or every so often. To add more click the "Edit This Page" button at the top and click your cursor where you would like to type.
START HERE:I think minimum education should be set so that all humans can be selfsupporting. I'm not sure what that minimum is, but emphasis should be placed on the Three "R's", and in this world computer literacy is an absolute must.
Education should be a series of achievable challenges. These challenges can be fun, but not always fun. I would think the challenges achieved would result in selfpride/esteem!! Life is not all fun, and children should know this. It would not hurt for kids to know that there are wins/losses in life. Too much emphasis is based on hurting the child's selfesteem. NOT GOOD!!!!

Not all kids should be forced to be a college graduate, or feel inferior if they are not. Tradesmen make a very good wage, and society needs them!!!!

I think education brings discovery; that discovery along with life experience brings wisdom. Of course none of this is of much good if not put to use!!!!

PROMPT #2: Now that you have viewed the PowerPoint (found on the HOME page) and recorded some notes, explain which philosopher(s) you most agree with and why (feel free to give examples and/or experiences.)

START HERE:

Socrates: If One believes God provides all, then I would have to agree that He provides all knowledge.
Allow students to discover; teacher to light the way/open the door.

Bacon: Endless and persistent uncovering of facts & principles that are not already known!!

Rousseau: Good @ birth!! Prejudice/Ignorance etc start not long after due to many many reasons!! Too numerous to mention.

Marx: Personal action could/does change laws, institutions. I.E. Civil Rights Act!!!

Pestalozzi: Hands on/Field Trips are extrememly helpful. Still emphasis needed on 3 "R's"!!!!

Spencer: Survival of The Fittest a definite "Yes"!!! What does "The Fittest" owe to those not as "Fit"?????

Dewey: Education is life; not preparation for life. Education enhances life!!!!
Reflective Thinking; I agree 100%. Quick responses not always such a good idea!!! There is an old adage" The More The Knowledge; The More The Doubt"!!!!

Sarte: Imperfect = Yes

PROMPT #3: Please explain which philosopher(s) you most disagree with and why (feel free to give examples and/or experiences.)

START HERE: Rousseau' Good people do bad/evil acts, and vice/versa. Evil people continue evil ways. There are evil people in this world, and they opt to live their life in this manner. It is not like Homosexuality.

Dewey: School of Micro of community or society?? How small a society? Should also think global after the first few years of schooling.

Sartre: Ignorance where education is an option/free is of one's choice!!! I have little patience with "Ignorance"!!!

PROMPT #4: Do you think having a philosophy of education is important for teachers these days, and if so should they share it with others (ie. students, parents, community)? Please explain your answer.

START HERE: Yes, they should have a philosophy of education!! How do they state their phlosophy w/o great peril?
Are they to be politically correct and keep every bias, prejudice, and religious belief out of their philosophy? I think it would be rather difficult to do in today's society!!! However, in fairness to the community they should state their teaching philosophy!!!
